Common Admission Test is an entrance exam conducted by IIMs for admission into MBA and other postgraduate courses in India. Candidates appearing in the exam have to clear the CAT cutoff to be selected for the personal interview rounds for IIMs and other B schools. Candidates have to clear the sectional CAT cutoff which includes Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. The CAT cutoff for top IIMs for the year 2024 will range between 98 - 100 percentiles. For other colleges, the expected cutoff will be around 80 to 95 percentile depending upon the number of admissions and difficulty of the exam. Moreover, IIMs have separate qualifying and final cutoff lists that students must clear.

After the conclusion of the CAT exam, the IIMs begin their admission process. Students are selected based on their scores and percentile in the CAT exam. Candidates are selected for personal interviews and group discussion rounds if they clear the qualifying cutoff.
